Allen and Barker of A. B. Gas and Oil Engine Works, Taunton
Mr. Arthur Allen and Councillor L. Checkley Barker were partners in this business.
1897 Commenced building gas engines
Produced the A.B. oil engine, which found a ready market in the Colonies and in other parts of the world. The engine was designed, cast, machined, and entirely made in Taunton.
1900 June. Royal Agricultural Show at York. Showed the A.B. engine. [1]
1902 'We understand that the Newton Electrical Works, Ltd., of this town, have acquired the patents of Allen & Barker, Ltd., for the manufacture of their well-known " A.B." gas and oil engines, and that new buildings are being erected with a view to meeting the increased demand for these engines. Until the new buildings are completed the engines will be manufactured as heretofore by Allen & Barker, Ltd., at their present works.'[2]
