"ALEXANDER BROWN was the managing director of [[Davidson and Co|Davidson and Company, Ltd]]., Sirocco Engineering Works, Belfast, and had been associated with that firm for nearly fifty years. He was born in 1883 in Dundee, where he served an apprenticeship at the Britannia Engine Works of [[Cooper and Greig|Cooper and Greig, Ltd]]., from 1896 to 1902. During that period he attended classes in the technical department of the University of Dundee and won the Campbell Junior Medal in 1898 and the Hunter Senior Medal two years later; he was also an assistant lecturer in engineering from 1900 to 1902. He then went to Belfast to join [[Davidson and Co]] as engineering draughtsman and was promoted to the post of assistant chief draughtsman in 1911. Two years later he was placed in charge of the drawing office. In 1918 he was appointed managing director of the technical department, a position he retained until his death, which occurred on 15th September 1951. Mr. Brown had been a Member of the Institution since 1920."

"ALEXANDER BROWN was the managing director of Davidson and Company, Ltd., Sirocco Engineering Works, Belfast, and had been associated with that firm for nearly fifty years.
