ALBERT WOODWARD PARRY, son of Mr. Richard Parry, builder, of Salford, was born on the 19th of January, 1834.
On leaving school he was articled in 1849 for five years to Thomas Tidmus Smith, architect and surveyor, of Manchester.
From 1854 to 1863 he was chief assistant in the offices of the Borough Surveyors of Salford, Blackburn, Scarborough and Preston successively.
In 1863 he entered the service of the Bradford Corporation as principal assistant in the Borough Surveyor and Waterworks Engineer’s Department, and was engaged on important work in connection with the carrying out of the scheme of main sewers for the Borough, in the laying out and making of street improvements, and in the routine of the office.
During the eight years he was in the service of the Corporation, the Barden reservoir at Bolton Abbey, the Doe Park reservoir at Denholme, and other important and well-known reservoirs were constructed, and the original scheme of the Bradford Waterworks was designed.
Mr. Parry was appointed Borough Surveyor to the Corporation of Reading in September, 1871, with the duties of which post was included the management of the waterworks.....[more]
