1845 Advertisement: 'Most Valuable Modern Machinery for Printing and Bleaching Calicoes, First-rate Engraving Machinery, Steam Engine, Steam Boiler, Gas Apparatus.—Adelphi Print Works. Without reserve, by T. M. FISHER, on Wednesday the 3rd day September. 1845, and following days, at the Adelphi Print Works, Salford, in the occupation of Messrs. Wilson and Barton, who are declining the business; sale to commence at eleven o'clock each forenoon: ALL their Valuable MACHINERY for Printing and Bleaching Calicoes ; the whole of which the most approved modem construction, and in the best working condition; and comprises two 9-8 six-colour cylinder, or'four cylinder and two surface printing machines; one 9-8 five-colour cylinder, or three cylinder and two surface ditto ; two 7-8 three-colour, two 9-8. and one 7-8 single-colour ditto, all fitted with maundrils, colour boxes, doctor shears, gearing, and steam cylinder blanket framing, nearly new; two cylinder drying machines, each 15-cylinders 7ft. 6in. wide, 18in. diameter, with drawing rollers, plaiting frames, and Bevil gearing; two 9-8 mangles, each with two wood and one brass bowls, with speed gearing, and cloven drying cylinders, each 3ft. 6in wide, 18in. diameter, attached; two 9-8 callenders, each with two wood and one metal bowls; four scouring crabs for laines, each with two wood bowls, five feet wide; pair of lever squeezers, two 9-8 winding-on frames, bowking kier for 1,200 pieces, and ditto for pieces, with steam and water pipes, valves and taps ; two washing machines for bleaching, on the new principle, by Towers and Shirley. The Engraving Machinery is perfect, and includes two engraving machines, and eccentric machine, both by Gadd, with all his latest improvements; marking-on machine, ruling machine, and two screw presses. Also a capital fire engine, with 7-inch double acting force pumps, copper air vessel, feeding tubs, buckets, 13 lengths of hose ripe, branches, and nozzles; excellent steam-engine, cylinder 2ft. 1½ in. diameter, 3ft. stroke (40-horse power) : two steam boilers, steam pipes, valves, and mountings; gas apparatus, consisting of six retorts, mains, condenser, purifier, pipes, and burners throughout the premises; steam and water pipes, mill gearing, cast, bar, and scrap iron, and other effects. The property may be viewed one week before the sale, when catalogues may be had on the premises; from Mr. W.BROOME, accountant, St. James-square; or from the Auctioneer, 21, Princess-street. [1]
