Makers of scientific instruments including cine cameras, cypher machines and tidal gauges. They made a cine camera for William Friese-Greene [1]

1885 Gold medal for invention of tide predicting machine, combined recording tide gauge, anemometer, barometer, etc.

The tidal gauge in the attached image is displayed at Bristol's 'M Shed'; it had been installed in 1924 to record the depth of tides at the mouth of the Avon for the Bristol Docks. It was damaged by the highest tide ever recorded there in 1992 at 14.7 metres. [2]
