The Heatly-Gresham Engineering Co., Ltd., of "Rational" Internal Combustion Engine Fame, Letchworth, Herts.
Among the romances of British Engineering enterprises, few can excel or even equal that of The Heady-Gresham Engineering Co., Ltd.
Twenty-five years ago the site of their present modern factory was a barren waste, and the town of Letchworth undeveloped and totally unknown industrially.
To-day this " No-man's Land " of twenty-five years ago is a hive of busy Industry and a prosperous garden city township, attributable to the foresight of the Company and their pioneer work in the development of the Internal Combustion Engine. The merits of their enterprise in the latter connection were speedily recognised and duly honoured by being the firm to supply the first petrol-driven motor cabs to ply for hire in the London streets.
From that time onwards their record is one of success followed by success. During the Great War, The Heatly-Gresham Engineering Co., Ltd., earned the digtin6tion of supplying the petrol-driven Electric Lighting set for use on Earl Haig's train in France.
In the manufacture of " Rational " Internal Combustion Engines and Electric Lighting Sets, the Company have not only been successful in producing a power unit of outstanding efficiency and unfailing reliability, but by concentrating on models up to 30 B.H.P. they are able to economise in costs of production, and consequently show their clients distinct advantages in price. Among other well-known productions of the firm's manufacture are: - Vacuum Exhausters, Air Compressors, Grey Iron Castings, Steel Stampings, Drop Forgings, and component parts for Automatic Vacuum Railway Brakes.
The works of The Heatly-Gresham Engineering Co., Ltd., are entirely self-contained, all work from the raw material Stage being executed on the premises under the expert supervision of the firm's highly skilled engineers.
It is also interesting to note that the largest proportion of the Company's output is absorbed by Export Markets.
