York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway

Formed in 1847 when the York and Newcastle Railway merged with the Newcastle and Berwick Railway

Took over the Hartlepool Dock and Railway Co

1849 George Leeman became chairman of the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway, succeeding his rival George Hudson after Leeman's investigations helped uncover Hudson's illegal share dealing.

In 1854 it became part of North Eastern Railway
