Y. R. Mayhew BSc(Eng) ACGI MIHVE Fellow, after an apprenticeship as an instrument maker, studied Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College where he graduated with first class honours in 1948. He then joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol, being appointed Senior Lecturer in 1966 and Assistant Dean of the Faculty in 1973. An author of several papers mainly about heat transfer, he is also joint author of a book on Engineering Thermodynamics Work and Heat Transport and the tables Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of Fluids. He has served with the CEI and with IMechE as a member of the Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics Group Committee. Recently he took part in rewriting the Institution's Guide to the Preparation of Papers.
