1871 to 1877 John Cochrane (1823-1891), his brother Henry, and George Wythes, were partners in some Blast Furnaces at Middleton, near Darlington.

1875 ... in the Matter of the Stockton Rail Mill Company Limited.... a petition for the winding up of the .... Company by the Court of Chancery was, on the 19th day of August, 1875, presented to the Lord Chancellor by George Wythes, of Bickley Park, in the county of Kent, Contractor, John Cochrane, of 51, Queen's Gate-gardens, in the county of Middlesex,Engineer, Henry Cochrane, of the Longlands, Middlesbrough, in the county of York, Engineer, and Harry Herbert Cochrane, of Saltburn, in the said county of York, Engineer, carrying on the business of Iron Manufacturers, at Middleton, in the county of Durham, in copartnership under the style or firm of George Wythes and Co., creditors of the said Company ...[1]

1878 "NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between George Wythes, John Cochrane, Henry Cochrane, and Harry Herbert Cochrane, as Ironmasters, at the Middleton Iron Works, in the county of Durham, under the title of George Wythes and Co., was dissolved, by mutual consent, as from the lst of December 1877.....
