Born the son of Richard Townsend

1910 Resigns and starts his own business. 'WM. TOWNSEND, having resigned his position as Director of R. TOWNSEND and CO.. Ltd.. Stroud, begs to inform Agriculturists and the public generally that he will in future conduct smiler business in all its branches under the style of Wm. TOWNSEND and Co.'[1]

1911 Residing at The Manse, London Road, Stroud: William Townsend (age 49 born Minchinhampton), Corn Merchant. With his wife Kathleen mary and four daughters.[2]

1925 January. Died. 'The death took place at the Barton Mills, Cirencester, on Tuesday, of Mr. William Townsend. corn merchant and cattle food manufacturer, at the age of 62 years. Mr. Townsend was the son of the late Mr. Richard Townsend, who established a business at Stroud over half a century ago. The deceased became associated with his father, and when the latter died a limited company was formed under the style of Messrs. R. Townsend, Ltd., of Stratford Mills, Stroud. Deceased was one of the directors, a position which he held until 1911, when be retired. Subsequently he commenced business on his own account at Barton Mills. Cirencester, having during the intervening years carried en business at The Manse, London-road, Stroud.'[3]
