WILLIAM STEWART HOBART DORMAN, B.A., B.E., M.I.C.E., who was born on 5 February, 1876, died recently.

Mr Dorman was educated at St Faughnan’s College, Ross Carbery, and the Royal Academical Institution, Belfast. He completed three years’ engineering study at Queen’s College, Cork. His practical training (2.25 years) was completed under the late Mr J. W. Dorman, M.I.C.E.

From 1897-1900 he was engaged on maintenance and construction in British Guiana.

In 1900 he worked for the County Surveyor’s Office,Armagh, on road maintenance and a project for the Portadown water supply.

From 1901-31 he worked for the Government of India, Punjab Public Works Department, with appointments ranging from Assistant Engineer to Chief Engineer, and duties comprising maintenance, construction, design, and administration.

From 1931 until he retired in 1935 he was Secretary to the Simla Municipality, engaged in municipal administration.

Elected an Associate Member in 1902, Mr Dorman was transferred to the class of Member in 1911.
