William Rose (1856-1929) of Rose Brothers (Gainsborough) and Northern Manufacturing Co
1856 December. Born at Gainsborough the son of Henry Rose and his wife Alice Youle Lightley
He became a retail tobacconist in Gainsborough[1]
1881 Invented a machine for wrapping tobacco automatically, which led to the formation of the firm that became Rose Brothers (Gainsborough).

With his wife (married 15 years with five children - four living) Gertrude Rose (age 34 born Gainsborough) and their children Alice Maud Rose (age 14 born Gainsborough); Walter German Rose (age 11 born Gainsborough); Alfred German Rose (age 8 born Gainsborough); and Gertrude Emilly Millicent Rose (age 5 born Gainsborough). One servant.[3]
