WILLIAM PATRICK LEAL was an Associate Member of the Institution for twenty-five years, having been elected in 1919. He served a six years' apprenticeship, beginning in 1900, at the Hyde Park Locomotive works, Glasgow, and received his technical education at the Glasgow Technical College.
In 1907 he proceeded to Burma, where he spent the remainder of his career, his first appointment being that of assistant mechanical and electrical engineer to the Burma Oil Company. After being in business on his own account at Rangoon, from 1910 to 1913, he was appointed chief engineer to the Kambauk Wolfram Mines, Ltd., remaining with that firm until 1924, when he became general manager of the Tavoy Tin Dredging Corporation, Ltd.
He continued to hold that position up to the time of his death, which occurred on 28th May 1944.
