William Hughes Butterfield (1883-1941)

William Hughes Butterfield was born in 1883 and was apprenticed to Tangyes Ltd., Birmingham.

After gaining experience as a Fitter with various firms he became Works Manager of the Traffic Automobile Co., of Birmingham.

In 1913 he founded the firm of Butterfields Ltd., designing and producing motor-cycles.

He died on 2nd November, 1941, at the age of 58.

He was elected an Associate Member in 1918 and transferred to Member in 1920.
