1865 August 12th. Born at Maldon the son of William James, Railway Station Master, and his wife Mary Ann Gilbert

1888 Founded firm of Thomson and James

1891 Married in London Colney to Bertha Louisa Sansom

Successful in cycle races on road and path 1882/1903

1898 Sold interest in Thomson and James

1899 Man. Dir. Crypto Works Co. to 1904

1904 'JAMES, William Gilbert, 29, Clerkenwell Road, London, E.C.; Caldecott Hill, Bushey Heath, Herts. Is managing-director of the Crypto Works Co., Ltd., which was established in 1872. Car: Crypto tri-car. Commenced motoring in 1900. Has driven 8,000 miles. Hobby: Cycling. Was at one time a successful cycle-racer, contemporary with Mr. S. F. Edge. Is a strong believer in the lighter type of motor-vehicle, and in the courteous consideration of other users of the road. Clubs: Bath Road, Herts Automobile (Committee).' [1]

1904 Re-commenced business as Crypto Car and Cycle Co. of 14 Mortimer Street, London, principally making valves for i.c. engines; present business exclusively devoted to valve production.

1911 Visitor at 3 Talbot Leigh, Braidley Road, Bournemouth: William Gilbert James (age 45 born Maldon), Engineer Mechanical - Employer. Married.[2]

1934 continued as Man. Dir. of W. G. James, Ltd.

Alive in 1953

1958 A William G James, age 93, died in Northampton[3]
