WILLIAM FORBES SPEAR was born in London on the 5th August, 1871, and died at Harpenden, Herts, on the 14th May, 1946.

He was educated at the Central Foundation School, Cowper Street, London, and then proceeded to Norway, where he assisted his father in work connected with the Swedish and Norwegian Railways.

In 1892 he returned to England and joined the staff of The Institution as a junior clerk.

By 1904 he had risen to the position of chief assistant to the Secretary, and in 1914 he was appointed Assistant Secretary to The Institution, in which capacity he served for twenty-one years, retiring in 1935....[more]
