William Dean Williamson was born in 1880 and was educated at Wigan Grammar School and Wigan Technical College.
He was apprenticed to general engineering with Walker Brothers, and was subsequently employed by the same firm as Draughtsman, Experimental Engineer and Manager of the Motor Department.
In 1914 he was appointed Engineer and Manager of the Commercial Vehicle Department, a position which he occupied until his death, which occurred in December, 1928.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1913, and was transferred to Member in 1914. He was for some time Chairman of the North of England Centre, and in that capacity served on the Council of the Institution.
