William Cross (1843-1899)
1900 Obituary
He remained in the service of that Company as Assistant to Mr. Woodall until 1872, when he was appointed Superintendent of the Saltley works of the Birmingham and Staffordshire Gas Company.
From 1873 to 1876 he took charge, during the illness of Mr. J. H. Robinson, of the works of the Leamington Priors Gas Company, and, on the death of Mr. Robinson in the latter year, he was appointed Engineer and Secretary to the Company. During the time Mr. Cross held those posts he carried out considerable extensions of the Company’s buildings and plant, to the entire satisfaction of the Directors. In October, 1897, he retired, owing to ill-health, and went to reside at Rhyl, where he died on the 25th August, 1899.
Mr. Cross was elected an Associate Member of the Institution on the 18th May, 1886.
