WILLIAM CAREY LEECHMAN, born at Irvine, Ayrshire, on the 6th July, 1839, died at Bournemouth on the 20th August, 1911.
Apprenticed to Messrs. Robert Stephenson and Company of Newcastle, he subsequently acted as contractor’s agent for Messrs. Peto, Brassey and Betts, on the Danish railways, then under construction.
He was then appointed Engineer and Manager of the Hultsdorf Oil Mills (cocoanut) in Ceylon, and later, as partner in the firm of G. and W. Leechman, he was prominently connected with several important undertakings in Colombo, until his retirement about 16 years ago.
Mr. Leechman was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 1st May, 1866.
