Founder of Batchelors Foods

Born in Sheffield, to Zechariah Batchelor who was a grocer from Camp Lane in Sheffield.

1895 William Batchelor set up in business as a tea packer in a disused chapel in 1895

c.1897 He turned his attention to packing dried peas.

Soon he concentrated entirely on canning peas

1913 He died when he was beginning to make progress with the canned peas business.

His young daughter took over the business; she was joined by two brothers at the end of the 1914-18 war.
