WILLIAM ALFRED REYNOLDS had a long record of service with Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox, Ltd., extending to over forty years. He was born in 1876, and after serving his apprenticeship at the works of the London and India Dock Company, from 1890 to 1895, was employed at sea as marine engineer by various steamship companies during the next seven years.
He began his long association with Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox in December 1903, first serving as an inspector in London and later as resident engineer at Dunstan and at Dublin. In 1910 he was made chief assistant in the erecting department, and during the war of 1914-18 went to Melbourne to erect the boilers and buildings of the Newport "A" power station.
Shortly after the completion of that important contract he was appointed manager of the firm's Melbourne office, a position he filled with distinction until his death, which occurred on 23rd April 1945. Mr. Reynolds had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1914.
