Established in 1878 by the late James Philip of St. Kitts, West Indies, trading as Philip & Co. (Pure Cane Sugar Co.). Succeeded by Charles Archibald Philip.

Incorporated with the Monocane Sugar Co. as a Limited Company in 1906.

Amalgamated in 1910 with Davison, Newman & Co., who are the oldest firm of grocers in the world (established 1650).

1914 Directors: H. F. Previte (Chairman), Algernon E. Aspinall, William Tapply, C. A. Philip (Manager and Secretary).
