Wanlockhead Lead Mining Co
of Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire
1906 The Wanlockhead Lead Mining Company Limited was registered, with capital of £25,000, to work and develop mines and seams of lead and other metals and minerals in and adjoining the district of Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire.[1]
1915 Wanlockhead Roads Sub-Committee on 6th August considered an application by the Wanlockhead Lead Mining Co., Ltd., for permission to carry a single line tramway of 19-inch gauge under the public road leading from the Old Toll-house to the Townhead, at a point locally known as "Rushey Sike.”[2]
1930 'A very large number of men and lads have found employment at Wanlockhead lead mines and are conveyed to and from their work by Mr Wm. Wallace, motor hirer, in buses, which have proved a great boon. - It is pleasing to note that these mines look very prosperous in the matter of ore at the present time.'[3]
1935 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[4]
