Walter Lees, elected a Member in 1921, was educated at Halifax, Yorks., and in 1899 commenced his engineering apprenticeship with Messrs. Binns Brothers, machine tool makers, of Halifax. In March, 1903, he was engaged by Messrs. Kitson and Co. as a draughtsman and remained with them until he joined the Buenos Aires Southern Railway. in April, 1906, also as a draughtsman. In 1911 he was appointed Feed and Speed Inspector in the workshops, becoming Assistant Carriage and Wagon Works Manager in 1913.
From December, 1914, to May, 1919, he served in the War, being commissioned in 1917. On completion of his war service he rejoined the B.A. Southern Rly. with the appointment of Progress Engineer, which post he held up to the time of his decease, which took place in Halifax, when on sick leave, on 2nd February, 1934, in his 50th year.
