Walter Heaton, born in London in 1882, was elected a Member in 1920. He served his engineering apprenticeship on the L. and S.W. Rly. at Eastleigh, and attended the Eastleigh Technical School and Hartley College, Southampton. He had many technical successes, including 1st class honours, for Rail Carriage Building.
After gaining experience in the works of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, at Newton Heath, as a carriage and wagon draughtsman, and, later, as leading draughtsman with the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Co Ltd., he joined the staff of the Central Argentine Rly., in 1912, as draughtsman in the C.M.E. Department.
He was released for service in the War and returned to the C.M.E. Department of the Central Argentine Railway. in July, 1919, being made chief carriage and wagon draughtsman. He continued in this capacity, serving under three successive Chief Mech. Engrs.- J. P. Crouch (since deceased), M. F. Ryan and W. B. Deakin - until July, 1936, when, owing to continued ill-health, he was pensioned off.
He went to live at Funes, Province of Santa Fd, but, unhappily, did not long survive, his death occurring on January 15th, 1939, at the age of 56.
