Proprietors and Publishers of "The Lancet," a Journal of British and Foreign Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Physiology, Chemistry, Pharmacology, Public Health, and News.
Established in 1823 by Thomas Wakley, M.R.C.S., who was Proprietor and Editor until his death, May, 1862. Succeeded in the proprietorship by his sons, Thomas Henry Wakley, F.R.C.S. Eng., and James Goodchild Wakley, M.D. The latter was also Editor until his death, August, 1886, when he was succeeded in the editorship by the above-mentioned Thomas Henry Wakley and his son, Thomas Wakley, jun., L.R.C.P. Lond., as joint Editors. Thomas Henry Wakley died in April, 1907, and Thomas Wakley in March, 1909, the editorship falling to Dr. S. Squire Sprigge. "The Lancet" is the oldest existing medical journal. Staff: About 145.
