Possibly this refers to W. and R. Holmes, Bookseller and Stationers, of 95 Yorkshire Street, Rochdale[1] but there were other companies/branches in other locations.

Later was a subsidiary of George Outram and Co

1966 Scottish and Universal Investments purchased the educational publishers McDougalls Educational Co Ltd which it merged with W. and R. Holmes Ltd to form Holmes McDougall Ltd
