1926 Obituary[1]
"We regret to hear of the death of Mr W. H. Oates, the manager of the Cheshire Line's Committee's railway. It was only in February of last year that he succeeded Mr. Charnley. We find no little satisfaction in the fact that the Railway Review - the N.U.R. organ - says that Mr Oates "was in personal touch with all the men and as chairman of the sectional council, earned the respect of all by his fair methods."
