Vernon Young (1892-1956)
"Mr Vernon Young, F.C.I.S., Director of International Combustion (Holdings) Ltd., and Chairman of its subsidiaries International Combustion Ltd., International Combustion Products Ltd., and Riley (IC) Products Ltd., passed away after a short illness on April 18th at the age of 64.
Mr Vernon Young joined the Organisation from Vickers Ltd. in 1924 as Secretary of Vickers and International Combustion Engineering Ltd., which was the forerunner of International Combustion (Holdings) Ltd. He remained Secretary of the Holdings Company until shortly before his death when he resigned owing to ill-health. He was appointed a Director of International Combustion (Holdings) Ltd., in 1952, and Chairman of International Combustion Ltd., and International Combustion Products Ltd., in 1955.
Mr Vernon Young was always a keen sportsman, playing tennis in the past for London Office and always taking a great interest in the annual Derby versus London Office Cricket Match, for which he presented a cup. Also a very enthusiastic golfer he took an active part in the game up to his illness.
Mr Vernon Young will be greatly missed by all his associates within and outside the Organisation who will wish to join with us in extending deepest sympathy to Mrs Young and the family."
