Vernon Percival Gamon (1884-1937)


1937 Obituary.[1]

Vernon Percival Gamon, born on March 15th, 1884, was elected a member in 1928, and a Member of Council in 1933. He received his early education at Marlborough and his technical at Manchester University. In 1901 he became a pupil at Nasmyth, Wilson and Co.’s Locomotive Works, at Patricroft, and at the end of three years joined the Lancashire Dynamo and Motor Co., being 12 months on the test bench and 12 months as Assistant Works Manager. He then joined Edison and Swan for two years, returning to Nasmyth, Wilson and as personal assistant to the active was appointed a Director.

Mr. Gamon was well known in in Lancashire Rugby circles in his early days, being a regular player for Manchester, and on several occasions played for his county.

In March, 1937, whilst still retaining his directorship of Nasmyth, Wilson’s he accepted the appointment as Director of the Manchester and District Engineering Employers’ Association.

He died in Manchester on the 23rd November, 1937, at the age of 53.
