1832 Act of Parliament enabled the establishment of the University

1837 Granting of Royal charter

1852 The university expanded into Newcastle when the medical school there (established in 1834) became a college of the university.

1871 The College of Physical Sciences in Newcastle joined.

1884 The College of Physical Sciences was renamed the College of Science

1904 The College of Science was renamed Armstrong College.

1937 The Newcastle colleges were renamed as King's College

1963 King's College became the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne
