1954 Acquired Alexandre, clothing manufacturers and retailers.[4]

1958 Acquired Allders, of Croydon; and Farnons, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.[5]

1961 Acquired Whiteleys.[6]

1968 Prevented by the Monopolies Commission from acquiring Montague Burton[7]
