1881 George Westinghouse set up Union Switch and Signal, consolidating the assets of the Union Electric Signal Company and the Interlocking Switch and Signal Company.

1890 brought out a new design of its buffer design called the Westinghouse double-acting friction buffer[1]

1917 Became a subsidiary of the Westinghouse Air Brake Co
