1875 Dissolution of the Partnership between Joseph Tweedy and Joseph Simpkin, carrying on business at the city of Carlisle, as Railway Signal Manufacturers, under the style or firm of Tweedy and Company. All debts due to or owing by the said firm will be received or paid by the said Joseph Tweedy.[1]

1879 Robert Wilkinson Tweedy and his father Joseph Tweedy were both "patent railway signal makers"[3]
1887 Silloth Steam Flour Mill. Ironwork carried out by Cairns and Co and Tweedy and Co of Carlisle.[4]
Business continued by Tyer and Co (represented by Mr. R. W. Tweedy, the son of the well-known mechanical engineer, Mr. J. Tweedy).[5]
