Tolly Cobbold

1723 Cobbold brewery was established in Harwich, Essex.

1746 the Cobbold Cliff Brewery was set up at Cliff Lane, Ipswich.

1880 Tollemache brothers acquired the Ipswich Brewery from Cullingham and Co

1920 The Tollemache family acquired the Essex Brewery at Walthamstow and become incorporated as Tollemache Breweries Ltd.

1923 Cobbold acquired half of the Catchpole tied estate.

1924 Company incorporated as Cobbold & Co. Ltd.

1930s the Tollemache brewery took over the Star Brewery in Cambridge

1957 amalgamation of the two family-run brewers: the Tollemache Brewery and Cobbold Brewery; the merged entity took the name Tollemache-Cobbold, Tolly Cobbold for short.

1977 Company taken over by Ellerman Shipping Group.

1983 The Barclay Brothers acquired the Ellerman Lines shipping group[1]

1989 Brent Walker bought the Company as part of Ellerman Holdings.[2] and closed the Ipswich brewery[3]

2002 The brewery was acquired by Ridley's brewery.

2005 Ridley's was bought by Greene King and dismantled.
