Sir Thomas Morel (1847-1903)
1903 Obituary 
SIR THOMAS MOREL died at Penarth on October 7, 1903, at the age of fifty-six years.
He was born in Jersey in 1847, and in 1867 began business in Cardiff as a sailing-ship owner and agent. He afterwards founded the shipping business of Messrs. Morel Brothers, and became a colliery proprietor. He was a director of the Cardiff Railway Company, the Bute Dry Dock, the Universal Coal Company, and other industrial concerns.
He received his knighthood in 1899, and took a large share in the municipal government of Cardiff. He was elected a councillor in 1885, an alderman in 1898, and in 1898-99 filled the office of mayor.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1896.
