1882 Dissolution of the Partnership between Thomas Furness and Christopher Furness, carrying on business as Grocers, Provision Merchants, and Steamship Owners, at West Hartlepool, in the county of Durham, under the style or firm of Thomas Furness and Company, by mutual consent, as and from the 31st day of December, 1882. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said Thomas Furness.[1]
Thomas kept the provision merchants, while Christopher took charge of the shipping fleet.
1891 After seven years as a partner in the shipbuilding firm of E. Withy and Co, (Christopher) Furness merged it with his own company in 1891, to form Furness, Withy and Co.
