THOMAS EVANS MITTON was born in Birmingham in 1855, where he spent the whole of his engineering career. He was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham, and the Midland Institute of Technology, and served a five years' apprenticeship in his father's works, the Crescent Foundry, Birmingham.
In 1874 Mr. Mitton, in partnership with the late Mr. James Hunt, founded the firm of Messrs. Hunt and Mitton, engineers' brassfounders and hydraulic gauge manufacturers. Upon the firm's formation in 1913 into a limited liability company Mr. Mitton became chairman and managing director.
He also held various important public appointments.
He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1896.
His death occurred on 18th May 1933.
