1863 Sale Notice: 'Preston Chronicle - Saturday 06 June 1863 IN BANKRUPTCY. SALE OF EXCELLENT BOLT, SCREW, AND MANUFACTURING PLANT. MR. B. C. WALTON announces that he is instructed by the assignee of Mr. Thomas Dumbury, to SELL BY AUCTION, at the machine shop and premises, St. Paul's-square, Preston, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, June 9, 10, and 11, 1863, commencing punctually at one o'clock each afternoon,
The VALUABLE PLANT, MACHINERY, AND MATERIALS, of a Bolt, Screw, and Patent Axle Manufacturer, all in most excellent condition and in full working order.
IN THE MACHINE SHOP are an excellent double geered self acting slide lathe, for screw cutting, to slide 10 feet, with change wheels and other requirements, by Elce and Cottam; a capital double geered self-acting screw cutting lathe, to slide 4 feet, with sundry fixings, &c.; a very powerful self-acting double geered slide lathe, 6 feet slide, with sundry appointments; a capital powerful nut tapping machine, by Wise, from a half to two inches; an excellent and powerful self-acting planing machine, by Priestley, with cross motion, to plane 8 feet; a powerful double geered screwing machine, with hollow spindle; a l2ft. iron slide lathe bed, with unfinished headstock and fittings; a first-class upright drilling, machine, with assorted drills and gauges; a capital swivel vice, by Robinson; 4 glazers and iron frame; a grindstone, fitted in iron trough to hold a 7ft. stone; an 18ft. slide lathe bed; a hand lathe, with 8-inch centres, nearly new; 2 long wood lathe beds, on iron bearings; a 4ft. fan blower, in iron box; a quantity of leather driving belts; a small platform weighing machine, up to 5 cwt.; a tool grinding stone, in iron box; fitter's bench and vice; an excellent assortment of tools, arbours, rose bits, drills, and other bench and lathe requirements.
IN THE FORGE SHOP are six smiths' iron hearths, each fitted with blast pipe, the iron and trough; 6 capital Oliver's bolt forges, on stone beds; an assortment of swages, blocks, and forging tools of every description; an excellent Ryder's patent forge, with an assortment of swages and blocks; a powerful single speed nut punching-machines, on stone bed; an iron crane for smiths' hearth; 4 smithy anvils and swage block; a large quantity of smithy tools, hammers, fc. 6 iron slacking troughs, and a variety of smithy plant; a quantity of Thorneycroft's best nut iron, assorted sizes.
IN THE SCREWING Room, five excellent screwing machines and an assortment of tools and dies, long bench, 2 fitters' benches, a small nut tapping machine, a large quantity of assorted bolts, nuts, and washers, finished and unfinished, in lots; an excellent assortment of dogs, drills, gauges, &c.; a quantity of loose drams and pullies, of various sizes; a large pigeon-hole screw and bolt store box.
IN THE FITTING SHOP, a washing machine, about 6 cwt. of cast, sheer, and blister steel (Marriott and Atkinson's); about 3 owt. of fine bone and livery sawdust for case hardening, 5 new washing machine boxes, lot of assorted files, office desks, boards, &c.; 9 pairs of unfinished cart arms, patent and common; bushes, iron mangers, &c.
Also a quantity of HOUSEHOLD FURNITURE, comprising mahogany sofa, stained chairs, Brussels and Kidderminster carpets, mahogany and other tables, polished birch tudor and other bedsteads, feather beds, &c., mahogany chests of drawers, washing and dressing tables, framed engravings, and a variety of other domestic appointments.
