1897 Born in Edinburgh, son of Sir William Haldane and nephew of Viscount Haldane
Educated at the Royal Naval Colleges, Osborne, and Dartmouth
WWI Served on various vessels; took part in the Battle of Jutland
Post-WWI entered Trinity College, Cambridge; Lieut-Commander (retired); took physics degree
1923 Apprentice with C. A. Parsons and Co
1925 Joined Merz and McLellan
Worked on the passage of the 1926 Act establishing the British Grid
1927 Installed a heat pump at his home in Perthshire
1929 Presented a paper on an electrical heat pump at the Institution of Electrical Engineers
Worked on development of the electricity supply system and later on the water sector
1939 Thomas G. N. Haldane M.A., Engineer (Professional) Electrical M.I.E.E. lived in Esher[1]
1941 Became a partner in Merz and McLellan
1948 President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers
Worked on developing geothermal resources in New Zealand
1951 Presented a paper on an England-France interconnector for electricity
1957 Retired from the partnership but continued as consultant
1981 Died aged 83[2]
