1933 Brief description of water pumping sets for the Merton and Burgheath pumping stations, comprising Mather and Platt Plurovane pumps driven by Crossley Brothers 110 BHP 4-cylinder diesel engines. Each was capable of delivering 694 gallons per minute against a head of 278 ft. at 500 r.p.m., or 1,000,000 gallons per day.[1]
