STANLEY GEDGE PLANTE, whose death occurred on 7th February 1942 in his sixty-second year, was born in Wimbledon and educated at Dulwich College, and in 1897 was articled to Mr. J. H. Loch, mechanical engineer of London. In 1899 he entered the drawing office of the Thames Mining Machinery Company, Ltd., London, as a junior, and after two years' experience there he joined Messrs. Davey Paxman and Company, Ltd., of Colchester, with whom he completed his apprenticeship in 1905.
Subsequently he held an appointment for a brief period as assistant draughtsman to Messrs. Richard Hornsby and Sons, Ltd. In 1906 he was appointed technical assistant on the staff of the Engineering Standards Committee and began an association which lasted for fully thirty-five years.
Mr. Plante was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1900 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1906.
