Smith's Blankets

From Graces Guide

1967 General Guarantee Corporation of America acquired W. Smith and Co and J. and N. Philips (Witney), blanket makers of Witney.

The company then passed through the hands of various owners: it was sold to Slater Walker, then to Bodycote who in turn sold it on to the Yorkshire furnishing company of Moderna Moderna Ltd in 1972[1] by which time it was known as Smith's Blankets.

1972 The business was employing around 250 people. Moderna initially announced that production would continue

1973 Smiths Blankets returned to profit.[2]

1974 However, Crawley Mill was partially closed in 1974

1975 the company ceased operating in the Witney area.
