1908 'WORKMAN GETS DAMAGES. Sitting at Manchester Assizes on Saturday, special Jury awarded £125 damages in the case of John Faulkner, metal turner, who sued the Simplex Engineering Company, Trafford Park, for malicious prosecution and false imprisonment. Faulkner was accused by the company’s then manager with having wilfully damaged the tools used on an iron planing machine. He was arrested late at night, and was further charged with stealing certain steel parallels and gauges. The charges were heard at the Sessions, when Faulkner was acquitted.' [2]. A more detailed account[3] inferred that the accusation was indeed a malicious act on the part of the management.
