1960 Company formed by the merger of the 2 parents of the Simon Engineering Group: Henry Simon (Holdings) Ltd and Simon-Carves Ltd[1].

1960 Acquired T. and T. Vicars

1961 Subsidiary companies established: Simon-Vicars Ltd and Simon-Waldron Ltd

By 1964 owned W. S. Barron and Son, which was renamed Simon-Barron Ltd

1967 The company was reorganised into 6 divisions:[2]

1968 Combined mobile crane and working platform

1968 Formed JV Simon-Litwin to build process plant for oil refineries. Acquired Hartleys (Stoke-on-Trent) Ltd, sewage treatment specialists.

1969 Acquired the feed milling interests of E. R. and F. Turner[3]

c.1970 Acquired SPL International[4]

1977 The Simon Group's software subsidiary, SPL International, agreed in principle to join the Insac marketing venture[5]

1977 Sold SPL International to NDC Systems SA of Canada and the National Enterprise Board[6]

1984 Acquired Drake and Scull[7]

1987 Acquired Gloster Saro, maker of fire tenders from Hawker Siddeley[8]
