Shaws (Huddersfield)
of Huddersfield, maker of relishes, jams and pickles, and vinegar.
1889 George Shaw founded the company at Shaws Relish Works, Fitzwilliam Street, Huddersfield as General Merchants and Chemists
With his two sons, Walter and Vincent, they worked to build up the family business selling many things from relishes, jams and pickles to marrowfat peas and baking powder.
1910 Bought the Sheffield business that made Henderson's Relish
1913 In need of extra space, the company bought much larger premises at Storths Mill on Wakefield Road.
Walter Shaw became General Manager and, later, his sons Norman and Malcolm joined the business.
1940 The Henderson's Relish business was sold to its manager.
1953 Martin Shaw, Norman’s youngest son, joined the business with a wealth of vinegar brewing experience and a passion for pickles.
1967 Martin recruited Terence Peace, a local lad who had just passed his Chartered Company Secretary exams with great success, to help in running the growing company.
1969 Terence became a director.
