School of Ballooning: Beta II

1912 The original Beta was modified in August 1912 by replacing the envelope with one of 42,000 cubic feet capacity and by being fitted with a 50-hp Clerget engine.

She was used to train Naval personnel in airship handling and continued in service throughout 1913.

On 1st January 1914 she was passed over to the Navy and was renamed H. M. Airship No. 17.

She was decommissioned in May 1916.
