1869 The business was set up by the grandfather of Francis Shepherd, who went into partnership with Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders.

Soon after its foundation, the firm established itself in Bartlett’s Passage, near Holborn Circus.

1906, a new building fronting on Fetter Lane was erected, adjoining the older premises in Bartlett’s Passage until the Second World War when the buildings were bombed. The firm continued to be based in the vicinity of Hatton Garden however, and then moved to premises in a converted tea warehouse in Bleeding Heart Yard.

1916 Saunders, Shepherd and Co Ltd was incorporated and remained in family ownership.

1947 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Manufacturers of Gold and Platinum Jewellery also Gem Set Jewellery and Silver Jewellery. (Olympia, Ground Floor, Stand No. E.1714)

1959 A Birmingham subsidiary, W. H. Wilmot Ltd, dating from 1860, was acquired.

c.1973 Another subsidiary company, Saunders and Shepherd Ltd was floated as part of the group.

The records of Saunders, Shepherd and Co go back to 1875, although many of the design records were destroyed during the Second World War, while those of W. H. Wilmot date back to c1900.
