1946 Obituary [1]

SAMUEL WALTER WILKINSON was the proprietor of Messrs. S. W. Wilkinson and Company, engineers, of Leicester, and at the time of his death, which occurred on 22nd March 1946, had been associated with the firm for nearly fifty years.

He was born in 1867, and at the age of seventeen entered the Vulcan Works of Messrs. Gimson and Company, Ltd., general engineers, of Leicester, as a premium pupil. On the conclusion of his pupilage in 1888 he was employed as an erector and fitter during the next six years, and from 1894 to 1897 was engaged in the latter capacity at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich.

He then established the business with which he was so long connected, acting as owner manager and chief designer. Mr. Wilkinson specialized in the invention and production of machinery for manufacturing chemists, and was also concerned with the manufacture of mixing and grinding mills. He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1918 and was transferred to Membership in 1925.
