"SAMUEL ROTHERSTEIN was born in Russia in 1866 and took courses in mechanical engineering at the Technological Institute, Kharkoff, and at the Polytechnic School, Zurich, where he also served his apprenticeship. After gaining experience as engineer-draughtsman at Messrs. Moller and Holberg's Machine Works, Stettin, from 1889 to 1892, he held several appointments of brief duration, as constructor with engineering firms in Germany, including the Union Foundry and Locomotive Works, Konigsberg, where he was in charge of the erection and fitting of marine engines and boilers.
In 1899 he came to England, and for many years acted as manager to Mr. Auguste Brehmer, engineer and maker of machinery for the printing and box-making trades. Mr. Rothstein, on his retirement in 1925, resided in the South of France, but was deported to Germany in 1944, where his death occurred on 26th June 1946.
He had been a Member of the Institution since 1917."
